About INUGSC
Founded by the UCL Surgical Society, the International Undergraduate Surgical Conference (INUGSC) was established in 2011 as the first conference of its kind. Created to provide medical students from around the world with access to high-quality surgical education beyond the traditional school curricula, INUGSC’s emphasis remains on encouraging innovation and cross-cultural exchange, pushing practical training, and pursuing academic excellence.
Our conference has been widely recognised for its standards and impact and has received endorsements from the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCS), the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd), the General Medical Council (GMC), and the British Medical Association (BMA). In 2023, its growing influence was further acknowledged when UCL Surgical Society received the Opportunities Award, following INUGSC’s recognition as the largest student-led surgical conference in the UK.
Over the years, INUGSC has continued to expand in both scale and ambition, welcoming over 500 delegates in recent years. In 2025, we welcomed in-person students from the United Kingdom, United States, Malta, Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, Georgia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Italy, Poland, Indonesia, and Thailand. We hope this growth reflects the consistently high calibre of keynote lectures, panel discussions, and hands-on workshops, all carefully designed to be accessible and relevant to medical students across the globe.
As INUGSC celebrates its 15th anniversary, the conference continues its legacy of showcasing pioneering ideas, cutting-edge research, and forward-thinking approaches to surgical education—aiming to remain a platform for inspiration, collaboration, and progress for the next generation of surgeons worldwide. A particular focus this year will be on our workshops, which we hope delegates will find new and creative.

INUGSC 2026 Abstract Competition
The International Undergraduate Surgical Conference 2026 proudly invites submissions for our Abstract Competition, an opportunity for aspiring researchers to showcase their innovation, critical thinking, and scientific rigour.
We welcome abstracts from all types of research projects. Whether your work is complete or ongoing, we encourage you to share your findings and contribute to the growing body of surgical science.
The top three abstracts, as judged by three external academic surgeons, will be invited to orally present their research during the conference. The remaining finalists will be invited for poster presentation. Both the oral and poster presentations will be judged by a panel of distinguished academic surgeons and scientists on the day.
The winning poster and oral presentation entrant will receive free publication of their full paper in the peer-reviewed Premier Science Journal, offering an opportunity to gain recognition and establish a foundation for a career in academic surgery. All three oral presentations will get their abstracts published in the Premier Science Journal.
Please join us in celebrating surgical innovation, collaboration, and the future of medicine.
